Small & Medium Manufacturers

The Small & Medium Manufacturers (SMM) Department is charged with the representation of the NAM’s small to medium-sized manufacturing members before Congress, the Administration and numerous federal agencies. A primary function is to integrate the small and medium manufacturing members into the policy process from the inception of NAM legislative positions to the lobbying for those positions. SMM members of the Presidents Council play a major role in this activity.

The small and medium manufacturing members are represented on the NAM Board of Directors by 57 directors and a steering committee. This group of SMM leaders gives their perspective and guidance to NAM policy committees and is able to bring specific policy issues before the NAM Board for review.

The current issue focus of the department involves concerns such as managed health care, estate taxes and the skills gap as well as other issues of concern to the NAM as a whole.
